Manistee is a native American term for "Spirit of the Woods." The Manistee River in Manistee county is the prominent image in this video, but this also encompasses the surrounding area, as this was shot in Manistee County, Michigan, surrounded by the Manistee National Forest.

The calm, frozen winter stillness gives it a ghostly feel, which was the main reason I chose to simply call this "The Manistee" - The Spirit of the Woods - even though I submitted this short film to the Manistee Rivers Film Festival as piece about the river itself. And while not an enormous river, compared to most, The Manistee can be a cold and foreboding thing with strong currents. I thought the instrumental piece was fitting, though I did not compose it specifically for this video.

The opening shot, by the way, is of a frozen Manistee River just east of the Hodenpyl dam - which is the ominous looking structure seen moments later.

  • nice creation...enjoyed it...I think the music could be a bit "slower" to be in sync with the shots....

  • Great video. Shows the pure beauty of that river system.
