This is a video I found on the United Nations homepage and gives you the essence of the Human Development Report 2006.
Across the world, 2.6 billion people lack access to water and sanitation. The world water crisis is one of the main obstacles in the way of human development and of reaching Millennium Development goals. This year's Human Development Report, Beyond scarcity: Power, poverty and the global water crisis, tackles this emergency.

Difficult access to clean water forces people in Manila to pay 5-10 times more for water per unit than consumers in London or New York. Due to the inequitable distribution of safe water and sanitation in the country, the Philippines is cited as an example in several sections of the HDR 2006. Sadly, the government prioritizes water corporations taking over city supplies for a mess of pottage.
