David Falk represented Marbury during the trade demand. And Timberwolves G.M. Kevin Mchale, didn't think Marbury would make good on a threat to leave to the then terrible Chicago Bulls. Who had the cap space to sign Marbury in the Off-season, but would only be able to offer the max of 56 million. Mchale reportedly wanted to call Marbury/Falk's bluff, but after losing Tom Gugliotta through free agency owner Glen Taylor wouldn't let Mchale do it.

Marbury always wanted to be the number one option, so he got his wish when he got traded to NJ. But if you read Darcy Frey's great book "The Last Shot", you can see where Stephon's delusions of grandeur (and eventual insanity) originated. Even though he was a great talent, his dad and others pounded into his head from a young age that he had to be "The Man" on whatever team he was on. Unfortunately he never quite shook that horrible lie.

I know it was Marbury's doing, He won't admit it publicly but weeks after the trade to the Nets he called some former Timberwolves teammates and coach's expressing regret over the trade.

He may have scored 50 points in this game but his high shooting attempts did not win him any fans from his teammates. Marbury was playing the right way in his first two seasons with the Timber-wolves. Scoring but also getting his teammates involved he seemed to forget this at the Nets.

Marbury wanted to be traded from Minnesota not only because of the weather but he didn't want to be overshadowed by KG. His career went downhill since then. The Wolves were a playoff team at the time with KG, Marbury and a healthy Tom Gugliotta, and they were probably a player away from contending for a title.

The telling thing about Marbury's career is when he got traded from the Nets and Suns and replaced with Kidd and Nash, those teams got better quickly.

NBA commentators were saying after Marburys second season that he was the better talent then Allen Iverson and Ray Allen. I just think stability hurt Marbury's career. Getting traded around a couple times and going through coach after coach really made it difficult for him to settle down.
