You can hear this for yourself easily enough: just listen to film trailers. Even a moment's reflection makes it evident that people do not ACTUALLY speak that way. You might also see if you can get your hands on recordings of 60's pop DJ's and compare them with those of today. Fashions change!

The number of women in the workforce was not very high, so there was no need to develop production line equipment for a novice.
