Colonial Honda in Halifax is an active supporter of The Children's Clean Air Network. The service department experts say that lots of IDLING can actually damage your vehicle.

  • I know. I used to remote-start my vehicle all the time...at least 20 min warm-ups every day. then I did the math: adds up to millions going up in smoke...by all of us.

perhaps when we think about what it all adds up to....and for what..? Car and truck dealers will tell you the best thing to do after 60 seconds is to drive it.

You'll save about $300 or $400 a year...and if we all did it...it would add up.

That's we're working on. Inspiring millions of us to cut out the no-brainer idling.

  • @ChildrenCAN It might be fine to drive it right when you start it in the summer but when your windows are frozen, its -40 outside, and your ass is cold you just need to let it warm up. Some new engines (gm 6.2l v8) even have aluminium parts that will knock if they arent warmed up (piston slap) . Not to mention oil is like a slurpy in the cold.

  • hahaha... the worst thing to do is drive your car right away without proper warming up. These causes your vehicle to waste a tremendous amount of gas at the beggining to catch up with the balance of ur motor calibration.... This also results in fucking up your motor sooner. Would you run a race rightaway withouth even warming up your body muscles? Hell now! you will pullout a joint or something!

  • BULLSHIT

  • @frosty9595 some people don't know the damage to an engine with out warming up.

  • sigh... you do not need your engine to be at operating temp in the winter before you start driving. your oil has had enough time to warm up in 30-60 sec in a honda anytime its warmer then -15 celcius outside. have you ever wondered why your oil has the 5w30. look it up and you'll see the oil is even rated for cold weather.

  • Other than the last segment destroying their credibility, they fail to realize (probably because they only know Hondas, read: tiny engines) that lots of larger displacement engines need to be run for at least 30 seconds when they are cold started, or, like others have said, piston slap will reduce the life of the engine block.

  • @ChildrenCAN When it's -40 in Canada - after 60 seconds of the car running it's still going to be -40. I'll wait the extra 10 minutes so I can get some heat thanks!

  • DONT LISTEN TO THEM THEY ARE SCAMERS THEY WANT OUR CARS BRAKE DOWN AND THEN WE GO TO THEM TO FIX THE CARS ! lol

  • so i dont let my car warm up?!?! well tell that to the car! i have manual choke and it stalls if you try to drive it straight away.. it also shakes like a cu** when you start because the fuel to air is to high there for it wont let you drive it either.

  • Re: Starter wear. My 1981 Accord (Daily driver) still has its factory starter. As for fuel efficiency, great. As for pollution?...well, let's just say that CVCC was a great idea, when dealers could/would actually service the requisite 3 barrel keihins that came with it. I am in an 8 year battle of trying to get my carb to run properly.

  • It's a honda, wouldn't that be the tappets?
