Soundbites from Kathryn Joosten on the Christmas Seals program.
Every year, the American Lung Association sends Christmas Seals -- stamps used to decorate holiday cards and packages -- to over 11 million households from October to December. It is the nation's oldest direct-mail fundraising campaign, which began in 1907 to combat tuberculosis. Today, they fight a bigger battle than ever before. From important research on lung cancer and asthma to the fights against the dangerous poisons in air pollution and secondhand smoke, the American Lung Association's crucial mission is still largely funded by Christmas Seals. This year's chairperson, Kathryn Joosten, currently stars as Mrs. McClusky on Desperate Housewives.
