Daniel Reetz describes DIY Book Scanner technology and the work of the DIY Book Scanner community at Google headquarters in support of a project there. A good introductory talk for a non-technical audience.
Can you please fix the sound. I'm a little hard of hearing and this is hard to hear or post a transcript. Thanks, eager to scan books and large objects like scrapbooks ...
THis is amazing. I just came across the diybookscanner org webpage two days ago. This is brilliant I hope this man gets more and more support from people who are as honest and earnest about this project as he is. When i get back to my house in a few days I am going to start mapping out the basics to building my own. EVeryone please wish me luck...
I have to agree with poodus, you have come a long way indeed. The talk has changed from a "how to build and what could be done" to a "look what has been done and see how we have improved the concept". The best part of these talks is the community and the past talks you've done always seems to add another layer, you always meet new people and absorb ideas and they become a part of the next talk.
I must say, it's inspiring to see you up there... out there... talking to Google. It's a long ways away from where you were a year ago in many ways. Here's hoping the after-talk went well and maybe you met some more people who can help the community.
Thanks Dan
