In the University of Southern California's Youth Impact Program, nearly 150 junior high students find out what it takes to be a successful football player and a successful student during a month-long camp at USC. The 10- to 13-year-old boys spend four hours a day in USC classrooms reading novels about football and learning about finances and math using the an NFL almanac. Then they spend the afternoon practicing a different kind of knowledge on the football field. The USC Youth Impact Program was founded in 2006 by Riki Ellison, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the San Francisco 49ers and a Rose Bowl champion with USC. The program was created in conjunction with the USC Joint Educational Program and is supported by the National Football Youth Football Fund and Los Angeles Trade Tech College.
