  • I really like Dodd because it seems as if he knows at the very least a bit about the person he's interviewing and the subject that's being talked about. This makes it so, as said, the person being interviewed can't hide behind the interviewers lack of knowledge on the subject and so the interview goes more in depth. Dodd also doesn't take bullshit answers, which is always nice.

  • I teach at a College and part time at a University and I did a presentation about this to my class about two years ago; I agree with him! If you look at everyone from Michale Phelps to Beyonce-they all are 'talented' yes BUT Micheal Pehelps worked out EVERY DAY! Beyonce started singing and dancing when she was 3! Same with Britney, Shakira etc. Almost all 'great and talented' people are just really hard workers who started young and found good coaches and the right people.

  • modern day genius...he observes truth and explains it...

  • The topic of the interview is about how background and upbringing influence success and outcome so it's entirely appropriate to talk about Gladwell's background, I don't see how it's immature journalist standards. He's not insulting in anyway and doesn't talk about them pejoratively.

Frankly I think that sort of in depth questioning which genuinely challenges the interview shows much higher journalistic standards than the trite, sycophantic interviews we've become accustomed to.

  • This interviewer was HORRIBLE! He came into this interview with pre-conceived ideas which phucked up this interview. His obsessive mentioning about Malcolm's Presbyterian background was distracting and showed immature journalist standards. I would expect this from a 7th grader.

  • I really enjoyed this interview. I disagree about dvskid's comment below. Dodd is a great interviewer, he gets to the point and challenges the interviewee, there is no room to hide, and this is good journalism. In fact I suspect he made Gladwell critically think about things that he had not yet thought about, to find the real Gladwell and not just to give him an opportunity to rehash his books. I really thought I got to know Gladwell more than I might. The British are good at that.

  • the interviewer sounded like a bit of a pompous dick. (no, not cause he is British, but in the side comments and tone in which he was addressing Gladwell).
