Lyrics:

In the morning when you rise
I bless the sun, I bless the skies
I bless your lips, I bless your eyes
My blessing goes with you

In the nighttime when you sleep
Oh I bless you while a watch I keep
As you lie in slumber deep
My blessing goes with you

This is my prayer for you
There for you, ever true
Each, every day for you
In everything you do

And when you come to me
And hold me close to you
I bless you
And you bless me, too

When your weary heart is tired
If the world would leave you uninspired
When nothing more of love's desired
My blessing goes with you

When the storms of life are strong
When you're wounded, when you don't belong
When you no longer hear my song
My blessing goes with you

This is my prayer for you
There for you, ever true
Each, every day for you
In everything you do

And when you come to me
And hold me close to you
I bless you
And you bless me, too

I bless you
And you bless me, too

  • I don't see, and maybe it's because I'm an American, but I don't catch anything in the lyrics that indicate it being particularly Irish, I think it is universal, like love.

  • Wow! Now THAT is an Irish blessing! The music and the singing were the best of Irish melody and harmony. After listening, I am ready to go take on the day!

  • Great Song!!!!!!! Does anyone know if there is a karaoke version of this?

  • Well, anyway I get the blessings when I listen to this wondeful song!!!

  • @Durdle1701 It is an Irish Blessing in that it originated in Ireland.

  • @durdle1701

I know what you mean. The Irish feel lies in the melody and tune of the music though. It's subtle, but it's definitely there.

  • @durdle1701 It can be universal but they do Celtic music along with universal, but this is an Irish folk song.

  • @durdle1701 i believe it is translated from Olde Irish

  • my vocal music teacher had us do this one and i fell in love! Thank you for showing this!!!

  • I'll be doing this song as a Winter Concert with all my singing teacher's students and some of my friends and family. I'm really looking forward to singing it. It's such a beautiful song and has so many different meanings to different people

  • my choir is singing this for a contest in like 5 days.
