JJ is a 13 year old, handsome normal grey cockatiel.  His owner contacted Mickaboo because she believed JJ had a broken wing and she could not afford vet care.
JJ was immediately taken to an avian vet where it was determined that JJ's wing
was not broken. Even worse.
JJ had a tumor.  On April 22,  JJ had partial wing amputation surgery.  JJ has been making an excellent recovery
but yet again we received bad news.
He has tumors in multiple places in his body indicating that the cancer began somewhere in his little body and spread to his wing.
It is highly unlikely that any combination of medications will cure JJ's Lymphosarcoma.
He has been moved into hospice care
where the goal at this point is comfort and quality of life for JJ.
Thanks to Mickaboo's intervention,

Story by Nancy
the help of a generous sponsor and
a wonderful new adoptive home,
JJ has the best chance at living out
the rest of his life in the most peaceful, comfortable way possible.

  • that's so sad :'(

  • He looks just like my Ricky. He has been diagnosed with uropygial cancer, had it removed but it came back.Hatched in 1984 he will have to be put down 2009,he is uncomfortable.

  • I was JJ's first foster mother, before we knew how sick he was. I picked him up from his first home where his owner's granddaughter hated him and claimed he was a mean bird.JJ hadn't been petted or touched with love for 10 years, until the day I stroked his head.He made a soft, loving little cheep as I softly stroked the top of his head and won my heart. He was never aggressive to me, even when I had to dose him with meds; he was a loving, sweet, gentle, little guy and I'll always miss him.

  • What a heart breaking story, =(

There so little to. I hope hes not in any pain. Id be crushed if my little cocoamer developed tumors.

  • Give my prayer for JJ...hopefully he'll have the best rest of his life that he can.

  • Poor JJ. It's nice to know there are people out there that care for him and make him as comfortable as possible.

  • Poor baby! I don't think I could survive if that happened to my boy! Give JJ my best, tell him I'll pray for him!
