  • "Sting" the name may have sped that up, but "Sting" the wrestler has slowed it if anything.

His in ring performances are sloppy compared to WCW days. Not only that, but he's gotten rid of all but two trade mark things. The Splash and his main move. He got rid of his "woo", The Stinger Death Drop, and getting right back up after suplexs.

That is why I say they are just using his name for promotion. He doesn't bring anything to the ring anymore, and that holds people back.

  • TNA had control of the NWA WH and NWA Tag while they were in TNA. So, TNA made AJ. TNA pushed him and gave him all those titles. You wouldn't push a household name like Sting who hasn't been in WWE or on the national scene in a while? And the single thought of him returning to the ring on national tv would make a company money and get publicity. You have to grow your company so it can promote to a wider audience before you can make your own guys household names. Sting can speed that up.

  • Okay, and?

You kind of proved that it was NWA that made AJ, but whatever. I'll give you that. There's one for you, and all the rest for me. Kudos?

As for the contracts to Sting?

Man, I've been watching him since back in the 80's, the colorful days of Sting. Trust me, watch those matches compared to now. He can't keep up, he's not in shape, his career has been dropping since the end of WCW. It doesn't take a genius to see this.

But they plug away promoting him because he's "well known".

  • Joe and AJ held the X Title. A guy does not have to win the world title to be a face of the promotion. Case in point has always been AJ. He has been the face while as X Champion, and not as world champion. And looking at history, AJ held the NWA world title 3 times. Now he has the TNA World Title and has held every TNA Title. If Sting's career was dropping long ago, then there would have been no reason for the high buyrate for Final Resolution 06 and for the 3 contracts WWE offered him since 01.

  • You are comparing WrestleMania to a normal TNA event. Mania's first event was a huge thing in wrestling. The only other big events in wrestling at the time were a few held by WWF and NWA's Starrcade, etc. Easily a lower price would mean more buyrates. Hell, if Mania's price tag was 20 bucks, instead of 1.3 million world-wide it would be more like 5.5 million world-wide. How is that so? Even if TNA do not make money off Impact!, they still have a good relationship with Spike, and that helps.

  • And how long was Joe and Aj held back from getting the title because they kept bringing in big names?

Sting, Kurt Angle, Christian Cage, etc.

And Sting has been around since the early 80's. He's pretty old man, I remember watching back when he was colorful, dressing in sky blue, pink, and yellow face paint with matching attire. He isn't as young as most people take him for. His career was dropping as WCW was.

  • What does the price of the pay-per-view events have to do with the buyrate figures? Wrestlemania has historically always had a higher price tag and it doesn't affect their buyrates at all harshly.

As for TNA's revenue making abilities - they either make money off of the small advertisements, their pay-per-views, and their house shows. They're not like the WWE where they can make money off of their television slots.

  • Weren't ECW events 20 bucks, while TNA's are 30? Also, TNA have other deals that make them money. No telling what their revenue is.

  • Oh dear God! The World Elite is an anti-American stereotypical group. They are tried of being look at as jokes and hated. Another common racist hate group, that has been multiple times in WCW, NWA, WWF, etc. Who has Sting really ever held back in TNA? He has put over Joe, AJ, etc. How is Sting a hasbeen? Shit, this next Impact! is all about the young talent, plus the next PPV is all about young talent as well. TNA are actually having a youth movement.

  • On to Joe. Joe is a stiff type wrestler. He started that gimmick in the indy circuit. He was a beast. A gimmick commonly used by many. Guys before Taz used it. Joe doesn't even rely on suplexes like Taz does. Joe was about winning, and used technical based wrestling to do as such. Joe is a technical type wrestler, just like Angle, Taz, etc are. You are going to have to learn what a ripoff is. Having similarities is not exactly a ripoff.
