Robots of the Imagination

One of the first prewar "robot" characters in Japan was Tanku Tankrou,the hero of a childrens comic story （with the same name） created by artist Gajyou Sakamoto in 1934.

　タンク・タンクロー」は1934年より雑誌「幼年倶楽部」に掲載され人気を博した。主人公タンク・タンクローは、手塚治虫「鉄腕アトム」やドラえもんの先祖とみなされ、S­Fマンガのはしりと評価されている。
