Applique one fabric to another using needle turn applique. This blind stitch, along with silk thread, makes the stitches nearly invisible. Watch how close to the edge of the applique fabric you can get with your straw needle. Supplies, articles and classes are available at www.nancyellenquilts.com

  • what size needle is best with the silk and cotton thread? thanks for sharing your talents, your work is beautiful and neat.

  • @BlessedDove Using silk thread for applique I use #11 straw needles. But you can use #10 or #11. If you are more comfortable with a shorter needle then use your quilting between in any size. thanks for watching!

  • My new booklet on Hand Applique, explains in more detail how to do each step to create a heart applique. I address many of the questions I receive including information on needles, thread, etc. Tips and Hints are added throughout .

  • Thanks for your reply. Your technique is simple and easy to follow. Last nite, I started working on my first applique its a basket with stars and snowman on a 9x9 block... Wow I did it... loVE IT.. will practice to make my stitches neat. do you have a video on how to make bias steam? THANKS again my teacher.

  • I don't have a bias strip video, but of course I use bias strips often for my applique. Maybe I will make that the topic of my next video. Thanks and don't forget to post pics of your work.

  • thank you for sharing this video... I think I can do this. if I may asked. what or when will you used fusible web or the freezer paper in an applique? your reply would be applicated much. Thanks your a great teacher.

  • Hi-The only instance I used fusible web is in my Shadow Applique piece, see it on my website under Projects. Small pieces were used to hold the appliques in place. The fusible webs are impossible to hand quilt through and may leave behind chemicals on your fabrics forever. I don't like extra steps in my quilting work and prefer to keep my techniques simple , so I don't like to cut and iron freezer paper and then needle turn and remove paper..Ohh that just takes the fun out of applique! TY!

  • @nancyellenquilts thank you so much this helps me get started.

  • i love your work. I am just begining my first applique project and have found your tutorial invaluable.

Thank you very much for sharing your talent with us :)

  • Thank you. This is so helpful. I've been stuck on a project for quite some time because I couldn't figure out how to do this without glue or some other sticky product. I like this method a lot.

  • Can you please do a tutorial on those curlie wurlies, I always have a problem with points and going around a circle, then a sharp point going the opposite direction and fading off down to a point. At the point where there is a sharp turn, I usually take a stitch on the left side, one in the middle and one on the right side, but there is not very much material at that point - going down to the point it is ok, at the point if I cut off too much of the material, turning around that point not ok.

  • Thanks for sharring this video!!! It help me a lot. The way you do the applique technic is easier than mine.

  • Thank you for this.

  • Thanks for this- I'm new to quilting and wondered how to sew on pictures. Your advice is really helpful. Can't wait to go get my supplies and start! :)
