As BP makes its latest attempt to plug its gushing oil well, news photographers are complaining that their efforts to document the slow-motion disaster in the Gulf of Mexico are being thwarted by local and federal officials—working with BP—who are blocking access to the sites where the effects of the spill are most visible.

Safety? The only safety that the USCG is worried about is the safety of BP's public image. What is it they are trying to hide? Who the hell considers the usage of 2 million gallons of toxic dispersants and hauling of tarballs to landfills as cleanup and how do you even use safety as an argument after that? This is our government and our water's, not BP's. Someone is guilty of treason, either Thad Allen or the president, and I want to know who.
