  • However, the arm swing (or lever assembly) gathers and transfers energy and thus receives action. It is the receiving of the forces of the stroke that makes them feel active to you. It is more like they are alive instead of dead. Even in a pure rotary action we want the arms to receive the energy so to be lively instead of stiff and dead. Even a whip has structure and life, eventhough it starts limp and never initiates the action.

  • I believe your concept of being a body became one of trying to be a pure rotator without any arm feel at all. As if the arms were strictly connected to the pivot instead of being allowed to fold up and drop slot as the body pivoted well. It is better to strive for a pure rotary action first and then allow the arms to react, even if they feel armsy as the react. The reason is, they simply become transmitters of the pivot power and stop initiating action.

  • As well as the drill helping you be more side-on with horizontal hinge and front linkage, it also helps you learn how the arms drop in with gravity in the transition. That tendency to be too aggressive, fire the body too soon, and use too much left arm goes away as you perform the drill properly. It is interesting that when you feel your arms drop with gravity it feels armsy to you even though your body is still counteracting the fall and you are still pivoting well.

  • I really like this drill for me cause I really struggle on my restore to my front linkage. This drill really helps my body become aware of my linkage point and where it needs to be in order to produce good swings and plays. Lately, I have become more aware on how my horizontal hinge is really important cause if my linkage is off or weak or fails to be horizontal I have a tendancy to hinge it in a right ARM under position which fails for me. Drill really helps to link up and get that feeling!
