@Symphonicprelude Are you aware that 8-H was specifically designed for the clarity of the human voice over the radio airwaves. It was also, and still is, the largest studio at Rockefeller Center. As a result, these dry, un-reverberant qualities were the antithesis of a good concert hall and murder for instrumental music.
Even more remarkable is how great this band sounds DESPITE the acoustics!
I'd hardly call this perfect. Toscanini had a knack for producing dead performances. They have no ambiance. Most were recorded in studio 8-H,which was totally isolated from the building. It sounds more like NBC's broom closet than a recording studio.
Tchaikovsky's works inspired by Shakespeare are magnifique(as is his total ouevre!!!!) In the 19th c. The Russian intelligencia particulary loved Shakespeare! It is such a loss to art that Tchaikovsky did not embark upon his plan to write his opera "Romeo and Juliet" We do have the Love-Duet that was completed and orchestrated by Taneyev after Tchaikovsky's death in 1893. I still think he was co-oercied into suicide by his former Jurisprudence classmates and took arsenic!!!
I know, I hate it when people get these two pieces confused. Both pieces are great! I think they're both confused a lot because "The Tempest" and "The Storm" sometimes are both referred to in French as, "L'Orage" meaning "The Storm" and since in the tempest there's a storm, people often get them confused. Glad I'm not the only one who catches this. I had the privilege to hear the chicago symphony perform "The Storm Overture" this past December.
This is "The Tempest" not "The Storm" for those who don't know, he did write an overture called "The Storm" so hop over to my channel if you want to hear it!!

This is the perfect recording.
But unfortunately, recording technology at that time just sucked.
Still worth listening, though.

1:24 is the only "non-magnificent" point.
Before 1:24 and after 1:24 is magnificent.
