It's pretty clear from my last half hour of watching steeplechases, that kids are generally frightened of the water jump. It's the psychology of having the pit. You think you're gonna land wrong and break your legs. The water means u cant see where u land. As a wknd plodder from Australia, in what is a boring sport 1500m-3000m if u r not good, I was considering the steeplechase. Now I'm not sure... even the Osaka fall at a land jump was bad, when he slipped on approach - could'v bin beheaded
