Converting a T12 switch-start (magnetic ballast) fitting to T8 high frequency fitting by stripping out old wiring and ballast etc and installing new electronic ballast and new wiring etc. On this occasion, the old diffuser is retained, but it is usually also replaced, such that only the original metalwork is retained. Advantage: cost. A entirely new fitting would also be a different shape and probably require the ceiling to be touched up with paint.
