How can we get more people who rely on government to have fewer children who rely on government?

This was the question John LaBruzzo, Republican State Representative from Louisiana, posed in public media to provoke a debate around the function of welfare in a healthy society. Eventually LaBruzzo was removed from his position as Vice Chairman of the House Health and Welfare Committee.

Why was John LaBruzzo deemed so dangerous that he had to be removed? The answer is that he dared to express an inconvenient truth. Louisiana has one of the most widespread state welfare programs in the United States, and not coincidentally, one of the highest rates of teenage pregnancy; 20% higher than average. Statistics paint a bleak picture of welfare abusers with drug problems spanning generations. Louisiana is lagging behind the national average in terms of school dropouts, teen pregnancy, children in poverty without health insurance (nearly 10%), and lack of proficiency in reading and math.

Like every person defending an offensive truth in our society, LaBruzzo soon came to face the anger of the mob. What motivated him to declare what some consider a radical plan of eugenics was the parasitism seen after Hurricane Katrina:

"After this recent storm, we had some issues where these people were going into shelters and taking their cigarettes and welfare but didn't have diapers or insulin for diabetic[s]they felt they were entitled to say, 'Give me, give me.' [They] didn't want to set up cots or anything."

LaBruzzo spoke for people who are tired of draining productive members of society with tax money in order to support people who chronically need the government to babysit them. As vice chairman of the Welfare Committee, he was in a unique leadership position to change welfare policy.

LaBruzzo offered some controversial solutions, such as offering $1,000 for recipients to be sterilized, and rewarding recipients without children. Fully aware of the fact that intelligent people have fewer children and later in life, LaBruzzo realized that this is the group we should be supporting. Throwing money at people who dont care about their own future or that of their community, LaBruzzo argued, is like feeding a pig with an open belly.

In a healthy society, LaBruzzos realizations would be law, rather than an offense. These issues need pragmatic solutions like those supported by LaBruzzo and CORRUPT.org.

  • As a cashier in agrocery store, The majority of food stamp recipients don’t speak English and the ones that do are healthy people with manicured nails, stylish hair , talking on their $400.00 phones and using Food Stamp card to buy :snow crab clusters, sushi, $98.00 birthday cakes from our bakery, tons of candy, chips and the list goes on . The ones on WIC have more kids than they can handle and are very often pregnant with their forth or fifth. It’s like hitting the lottery on our dime.

  • I live in Nashville, TN and when Katrina hit in New Orleans, they shippe 4,000 people who were all on welfare even before Katrina. They cried and mowned that they lost everything. So the good people of Nashville and our Government gave them $3,000 to $5,000 each to go out an buy new stuff plus put them in housing, plus got them on food stamps, plus free medical, plus cell phones and on and on. They would call the TV stations and cry on the air they want more and more. You can't make them hapy

  • Welfare, with some exceptions, is pure fraud. The recipients don't have to test for drugs like the working population who pays for their benefits. They double and triple dip by moving from state to state. Drug testing should be a requirement, as should be working for the state. That alone would send them searching for jobs. They take in enough to buy drugs and expensive phones. Here's the solution: test for drugs, require work for the state, and limit benefits to 3 or 6 months. Problem solved.

  • the answer is to enforce work for the dole{welfare}Do some manual labour for the state and you'll get some money.i'm thinking about cleaning grafitti ,rubbish removal, tree planting etc...i don't believe in either money for nothing or nothing at all for poor.it has to be quid pro quo.interestingly enough,in the 19th century in britain those who received welfare we're disqualified from voting.

  • Welfare is for lazy losers, period. Eliminate it now! I'm a liberal but am against abortion and welfare.

  • @totoynani143 Are you aware that 68% of blk males and 62% of blk females work, while 59% of white females and 74 % of white males work?

So, black men and women work about the same as white men and women. However, the pay for these two groups are far less than their counterparts. So, yes! They need government assistance. They work while not making any money.

  • @DoughJames they have a job? why are they on welfare then?too many kids? yah i know people on welfare, they r liar, not married having kids, girls lie'ng that there's no man around, driving better car than me,having time to drink all night and don't have to get up early in the morning, kids multiplying every year, stupid welfare worker people' not realizing how kids suddenly pops out, I'm a shame cz some of this people r my distant relative,i'm just glad that none of emmidiate family r on this shit

  • It isn't a race issue. There are people of all races that collect welfare. Some need temp help until they're established; the others are lazy baby makers.

  • @cbanks5455 "They would call the TV stations and cry on the air they want more and more. You can't make them happy"

You are exactly correct ! You can't be happy in you don't work. I am from New Orleans, was in NOLA for the storm AND am still here working today. When it all happened, I had to sit in Baton Rouge (and Not work) to wait for the water to go down in NOLA. It is not a good feeling waiting on help, not working and feeling worthless. Imagine doing that your whole life...by choice

  • republicans are the fucking problem here. They are going after education and healthcare yet DON'T want to TAX THE RICH or take away subsidies from big oil companies. Repukelicans believe that poor are expendable and not worthy of help to make a decent living.

  • @cgbg2ace

don't generalize, u sound racist and bigot.
