I live in Venice and find this interesting. The whole idea of dancing without any musical accompaniment seems a bit strange, but I guess it wasn't uncommon back then. If there wasn't a live band and it was outdoors, what else could you do? There were no portable battery operated music devices back then. They all had to be plugged into something.
