This story was inspired by Alexander wollcotts personality and he actually played himself/whiteside in the play...Banjo was basically Harpo..he was part of the Algonquin round table group...i never new this until i read Harpo marx autobiography..

Jimmy Durante was an old vaudevillian, God bless him, who seemed to feel that the whole reason anyone was alive was to laugh, relax, and feel good, and his job was to make that happen. He comported himself accordingly.
