I love being an 8404 Corpsman in the Navy. Love being with the marines way more than I did with the Navy. Marines are way more hardcore and you definitively earn respect and get respected by a lot of marines for what you do. Its a great path to go down, and its great for whenever you want to get out. I am so glad my recruiter lied to me and I never became a yeoman!

are the army rangers combat medics in more patrol?
-
how do you get attached to a line company once you're FMF qual'd? i wouldnt want to be stuck at the BAS, and was wondering what things they look for for the docs going out on patrol attached to the unit.

@MrFuckyouintheneck You will usually do a 2 year shore duty then a 2 year sea duty, and the sea duty can either be on a ship or with a deployable unit (Marine unit) and its the marine unit you are with that determines how often you get deployed, usually its 8 month deployments if im correct. also you can get pulled for a deployment while you are still on shore duty

@MindEXplorer22 Yeah man Buchanan is one of the best and does give a shit corpsman from your class. we graduated together. did you go to blueside or stayed green side?
@Tycoon:Don't know much about Ranger medics. Usually the needs of the unit come first. @Marleynr8: Being at a BAS is actually very critical and you will see more casualties there because that's where they all pass through. I always say that if I'm bored then that means it's a good day because no one got hurt. However, if you're a hard charger and want to go on patrol it's usually easy to volunteer providing you're squared away and not some dirtbag the Marines don't like or trust.

Hey man, As an FMF Corpsman, do you get to see a lot of combat? Do you have to work in a hospital most of the time?

@MrFuckyouintheneck You go wherever your Marines need you most. It may be out on patrol, or you may be stuck at a hospital. The needs of the Navy come first.

@wallems5221 I love being with my Marines. You develop a bond with them that other members of the Navy never do.

No. An officer can be a medical officer if they have the qualifications but medical officers are never sent out on patrol. They usually stay at the BAS because the Corpsmen there operate under their medical license unless they are IDC's.
