Frank Sinatra's final performance
Date: 25th of February 1995
Place: at a private party for 1200 select guests on the closing night of the Frank Sinatra Desert Classic golf tournament, Sinatra sang before a live audience for the very last time. Esquire reported of the show that Sinatra was "clear, tough, on the money" and "in absolute control". His closing song was "The Best is Yet to Come".
"I've Got The World on a String" is a 1932 popular song composed by Harold Arlen, with lyrics written by Ted Koehler. It was written for the 1932 Cotton Club Parade.
It was introduced by Cab Calloway and Bing Crosby. It was also recorded by Frank Sinatra in 1953. It reached #14 on Billboard's most played list.
Anthony Perkins sang it in the drama Winter Dream, a production of the live anthology TV series, Front Row Center. Céline Dion also performed this song in her Las Vegas show A New Day..., which ran from 2002 until 2007.
Lyrics:
I've got the world on a string, sittin' on a rainbow
got the string around my finger
what a world, what a life, I'm in love!
I've got a song that I sing,
I can make the rain go
anytime I move my finger, lucky me
can't you see, I'm in love.
Life is a beautiful thing
as long as I hold the string.
I'd be a silly so and so,
if I should ever let go
I've got the world on a string
sittin' on a rainbow
got the string around my finger
What a world, what a life, I'm in love!
I've got the world on a string, sittin' on a rainbow
got the string around my finger
what a world, what a life, I'm in love!
I've got a song that I sing,
I can make the rain go
anytime I move my finger, lucky me
can't you see, I'm in love.
@RINGOFE Can you post the rest of the show? This is amazing quality!! And Frank sounds excellent...sounds like 10 years earlier...in my opinion he never lost his voice he just overworked himself and sometimes didn't get the proper rest...but as you can see with over 2 months of rest since his shows in Japan in December of 94 he sounds like a million bucks here

@CaliforniaReverie I agree with you. Too many cigarettes and alcohol also! There were nights that FAS was in great shape and not even other musicians couldnt believe it. Age is a serious factor. i believe that he should have retired but it's a Frank's world after all..
