Whitstable, a small town on the north coast of Kent in Southeast England, was the basis for the fictitious "Blackstable" -- the setting for Cakes & Ale by William Somerset Maugham. This film explores some of the real landmarks and locations featured in the novel that can be found in the town.

  • I really, really enjoyed watching this video. Maugham is my favourite author, and when circumstance finds me in Kent, I'd definitely make a visit to Whitstable to see for myself the places that are so familiar from his books. I'd really like to say how well researched and put together I consider this video to be, and how helpful a guide it would be to anyone traipsing the Maugham trail. Thanks so much for making it and posting it. :-)

  • Very good mini-documentary, enjoyed the narration.
