  • Well, turns out my Jag is officially shot...

not sure how it happened, but I recently took it up to my local Play n' Trade and after they tested everything, it turns out the motherboard is just shot to hell...

kinda sucks but it's still good as a display piece

  • hi i have a atari jag... mine is haveing sound problems, is it becase i use nintendo tv cables??? the sound is either too low , or makes a anoying screetch..after the load screan appers? while playin the game???

  • @Eternal337 I'm gonna have to go ahead and say yeah, probably the Nintendo cables...

  • thanks everyone for your help, I'm still not sure whats wrong, I've tried every game now, and it still doesn't work, I've tried all of your suggestions, but I'm probobly just gonna take it some place to be repaired.

  • Yes, when the Jag doesn't have a game in it, it won't turn on at all. Occasionally, the connection to the game you have in it will be bad enough that it thinks there's nothing in it.

I had the problem of... not putting my games in all the way... felt so dumb afterwords, but you shouldn't have that problem since you've owned it for a long time and know how far to put them in, riiight? :D

  • yeah, I'm pretty sure they're in all the way... i mean, they snap into place and everything...

I've also tried cleaning the cart port with some rubbing alcohol and still nothing...

tried it with all of my games, still nothing...

I really hope it's just a problem with the power cord and not the system itself...

  • ..Just wondering, just picked up a Jaguar but don't have any games yet or a controller. When I plug it in I don't get any power light. Do you have to have a game in for it to power up?

  • I thin youre jaguar is fucked up not the power

  • @VigorousjammerX I had the same problem with both of my Jags. One Jag died, no sound eventually. Then the second one had such a low sound output, I always had to turn it way up and got a hissing sound... Quite annoying. IBM didn't do a great job with manufacturing.

My friend when he bought his second Jag because the first one stopped turning on, found HAY in his. Legit straight up barn hay, inside of his brand new jag...

  • The L H switch is for the channel output; L is for LOW and is for 3 while H is for HIGH and is for 4. Why they couldn't label them 3 and 4, who knows?

As for your power-on problem, I'm willing to bet chip U38 is bad, which is a Motorola MC34163DW in surface mount configuration.

This chip is a power switching regulator and is part of the Jaguar's internal power supply block. It can be destroyed rather easily from power surges or by using the wrong AC adapter.

  • Hi. not sure if your still having trouble with your Jaguar, but figured I'd post just in case. The Jaguar has a fail-safe where it won't even turn on if it thinks there's no game in there. I know ya tried cleaning it, perhaps try compressed air in the cartridge slot. Also try multiple games, it's possible that the game your trying is simply dead. Power supply could be the issue also. I have the luxury of being a collector of classic systems so I had a Sega CD power supply near-by to test mine.
