On 23 January 2010, citizens of the Capital Region joined with compatriots from St. John`s to Victoria, Windsor to Iqualuit, determined to defend a nation far more open, democratic, and progressive than an outside observer of our politics since Harper`s ascent to power might reasonably assume. In defiance of Stephen Harper`s radical, dangerous view of executive power, the people put decisively to rest the central assumption of Conservative ideology and solitary pillar of Tory political strategy: Canadians are stupid and don`t give a damn about their great country. Whatever your allegiance, your politics, or your views, the peaceful defeat of this morally bankrupt Government remains Canada`s greatest imperative.
