Most spinning reels can be set for left or right hand, most fishermen cast with the strong hand and crank with the off hand.

@IbanezPlayer44965 Yes, it is. If it is a good spinning reel, I'm not sure. Though Shimano does make some pretty great reels.

Thanks for the information! I grew up with the "old fashioned" rod and reel in MT. Treated myself to a new rod and reel - but realized I had no idea on how to cast the darn thing! Am getting ready for a 3 week camping trip and ready to try again. Will probably practice casting on the golf course before I give it a whirl on the streams. Thanks a bunch. As a 60+ chick in TX - still trying to learn how to use the "new gagets".
