First there was Variant Edition. Then came Variant Edition Tuesdays. Now it's time for Variant Edition: The Discussion.

What is Variant Edition: The Discussion?
Every other week, Variant Edition will sit down and talk comics. We'll pick a topic (or topics) that we find interesting and chat it up.

This week we discuss if publishers doing enough to get kids to read comics.

Variant Edition: The Discussion is online through iTunes, available on www.variantedition.com and sharable through Veoh, YouTube, Google, BlipTV and LiveVideo. And don't forget to check out our forums...let us know what you think of the episodes or would like to see something covered on the show.

  • how about a discussion about avaliability of comics outside of the usa. i live in england and all we get are collectors editions that are way out date. to give you an example marvel recently started re-releasing new avengers #1. sure theres tpbs but i dont want that. and when i went to cyprus last year i was shocked to find that they were getting issues like a day after the usa release, surely theres more customers in brittania

  • Interesting ideas on content for attracting new and young readers. But pricing and distribution are the biggest hurdles to gaining new readers. Comics are just too pricey for new readers to get involved, and comics need to be more widely available. Lower prices, widen access, and write more self-contained, kid-friendly story content. That's how to save the industry.

  • I miss these guys :(

  • What are you guys talking about? English translated versions of Shonen Jump, Tokyopop and Shojo all Japanese comics for boys and girls OUTSELL DC and Marvel.

  • Took it down again because you guys know you blow. Just be honest with yourselves.

  • i would rather than you guys doing 30 minuite episodes, to break it down into different comics. so its easier to find what your looking for instead. I'm not sure if you have time for it etc. Also, do you have any hellboy reviews up?

  • A discussion abou the future of the Walking Dead would be great!

  • As a teen age girl and comic fan, I would like to recommend Geoff Johns #26 as a started issue, that is what got me hooked, now I read 15 DC titles a month.

Additionally, a decent topic I know is all over the comicbloc boards, is swearign and vilence in mainstream comics.

I love this show, Can't wait for more

  • Great discussions, comics for kids that aren't dumbed down would be very nice
