The first part of this clip is me playing a groove using the triple stroke roll between 2 hi-hats, a snare and bass drum. I came up with this groove mainly because I wanted to see if I could put the triple stroke roll into context as it appears to be rarely used.

For the rest of the video I just improvised around this small setup to see what I could come up with.

Sorry if the sound isn't great.....the room was big and echoey so acoustics weren't great.

Hope you enjoy

  • Excellent hand/finger control...Can you tell me your sticking (on any parts)?...thanks

  • @davss5 yeah sure. I find it tricky to describe sticking without manuscript or demonstrating but here goes...

The main rudiment is a triple stroke roll that has been inverted. I'll write it in semi-quaver triplets.

    RLLLRR RLLLRR RLLLRR RLLLRR

Try to accent every 1st and 4th note of these triplets. Hope this helps.

    Grahame

  • this is siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick. clips like this really motivate me to spend more time practicing rudiments even though they're boring

  • ufffff!!!

  • awesome!

  • @grahameosheadrums Thanks...I see the inversions - although in sequence you're playing repetitive triple-strokes (LLLRRR) - which I thought I saw in watching your video...I'm self-taught, and I never developed my bounce rolls (which I feel you're doing very well with your triple-strokes)...I can do triple-strokes, but essentially without any appreciable bounce - and so my (triple-stroke) speed is considerably slower than what you can do here...thanks again...blessings...

  • That Was Amazing ! :D

  • Nice work dude! The second this clip finshes I'm getting on my kit and trying that out.

  • Dude...this is what I was looking for. Now I know, for sure, I want to get good at triple stroke rolls! You ROCK!
