After a glorious week, Saturday the 28th saw a strong and cold northerly wind, typical I was going to go out filming!

Only two shots here, the first being the Earl arriving at Oxford and the second, a very rushed shot of it's departure from Oxford middle road, where it was held for 10 minutes before pulling into a loop for water.

This film should be a lot longer, having planed another location and a further 3 shots on the return journey. But I'm sorry to say the Earl had failed just after the second shot and was taken to Didcot for repair, the tour continued later in the day with a class 47 diesel. My heartfelt commiserations go out to all the Tysley crew that had worked so hard in restoring and preparing this engine. I just hope that it turns out to be a minor repair job.

  • I, along with some others waited near Baulking for quiet sometime, until someone drove past and gave us the unfortunate news.

  • Bother, that should of course be "quite" not "quiet" because we were anything other than that! :)

  • Great video Bill, it's such a shame when a magnificent engine is seen like this after all the work that's gone into its renovation....5* Bob

  • 5043 looked bad at Banbury. Not surprised it didn't reach Bristol.

  • Oh dear. She sounds horrible leaving Oxford there! A broken radius rod is what i've been told.

  • Thanks for that!

  • Well done great video
