I remember listening to this as a child with my parents. I love you James Taylor.

Favorite artist of ALL TIME

The genius in the lyrics was JT's buddy, writer and professor at Duke, Reynolds Price. Of course only JT can sing like that and come up with the rocking lullaby tune!

Why do they call it like they do?
Sweet mother of crap! I have been looking for this song for years! I first heard this on the radio when I was a little kid and I didn't know the artist, the song title, or a majority of the lyrics, but the beat and tune was always in my head. After so many years of looking for the song, which I though was so awesome, my search is finally over.
Thank you so much, mate, for the help. And thank you, James Taylor, for writing this awesome song from my childhood.

Orcist... James Taylor did not write the lyrics, he composed the music to accompany the lyrics written by one of our nation's most treasured writers: Reynolds Price, who died in January 2011. Check the library for copies of his many books... Incredible author. May he rest in peace.
