This is a reprise of the video I made about two years ago, and when I made it originally I didn't realize that Lana Turner's daughter believes that Sinatra recorded this song with Lana in mind. Apparently Lana loved flowers and was known for pinning them to her fur coats before it was considered fashionable to do so. So here is Frank singing "Violets For Your Furs" once again with photos of his close friend Lana Turner. Enjoy!

Beautiful! I had no idea Frank recorded this with Dorsey. It's my favorite song. And how appropriate it is for a tribute to the lovely Lana.

Matt Dennis and Tom Adair wrote this song. Matt Dennis performance of this is much better. As for the story behind the song.
Dennis and Adair had gone to see Billie Holiday perform, reaching the club in a snowstorm. Adair had bought some violets for his date and he commented that he would like to pin them on Holiday's fur. This led to Violets for your furs.

@postbopjazz, yes, but when Sinatra recorded it, he had Lana Turner in mind. I'm not disputing the song being a tribute originally to Billie Holliday, just what it represented to Sinatra.
