Interesting you put "Didn't think it would turn out bad" to photos of him and Fiona Apple - from what I understand she turned to her recording company because she wanted Brion's initial production (the unreleased versions) of her album changed (this is internet gossip, so a pinch of salt). With that in mind, the lyrics fit nay perfect XD

thats because jon brion references the beatles a lot in his production and songwriting--- he studied the entire beatles catalog. he knows every part of every song by heart. so i highly doubt that if it sounds like "girl," its a mistake.

OMG!! For a split second at the start of the song, I swear it sounds a bit like the intro to "Girl" by the Beatles! Think about it.. "Is there anybody going to listen to my story, all about the girl who came to stay".. from "Girl".
