You have to almost force them to taste it, if they like it, they will remember and eat it from then on. Just be careful you don't hurt them.

@mrs747allday patience, patience... watch them, specially when they wake up, if you see that they pick a wrong spot take them and put it in the litter box. After 2 or 3 times they get your idea, they are very, very smart. Now, personally my ferrets don't use the litter box, they have a specific spot with paper towel. For some reason I couldn't get them used to the litter box...
