Title: "What's it for?"
Vocal: Emily Curtis
Composer: Yoko Kanno
Album: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex O.S.T 2

I really love this song. The image is the cover for the CD.
If you would like to hear more from this lovely album, go buy it.

Lyrics:
I'm not too sure that I can go much farther
I'm really not sure things are even getting better
I'm so tired of the me that has to disagree
And so tired of the me that's in control

I woke up to see the sun shining all around me
How could it shine down on me?
You'd think that it would notice
I can't take anymore
I had to ask myself
"What's it really for?"

Everything I tried to do, it didn't matter
and now I might be better off just rollling over
'cause you know I tried so hard but couldn't change a thing
And it hurts so much I might as well let go

I can't really take the sun shining all around me
Why would it shine down on me?
You'd think that it would notice
I no longer believe
Can't help telling myself
"It don't mean a thing"

I woke up to see the sun shining all around me
How could it shine down on me?
Sun shining all its beauty
Why would it shine down on me
You'd think that it would notice
I can't take anymore
Just had to ask myself
"What's it really for?"

  • Mabye a few years ago i related to this song... But it means that she's tired of who she is, and how life doesnt always go the way she wants no matter how hard she tries to change it. Its so frustrating that she wants to give up completely.(suicide) But each day, the sun still comes up as if she didn't do anything. So basically, she is who she is, there's nothing she can do about it, it's out of her hands, life goes on no matter what. :D

  • I really love this song. Yoko Kanno seriously covers a HUGE range of genres in music. Love it.

  • dude! i though yoko sing this song. i got fooled.

  • At first I though Yoko kanno was the singer lol XD

  • i always thought the sun represented the surreal feeling of walking through a world where everyone is joyful and carefree, when you are immersed in a personal hell. beautiful weather feels like mockery when you're dealing with trauma. (especially when you're a fictional character, and it's supposed to rain when you're feeling sad, dammit!)

so i see a lot of bitter irony in this song, which makes it interesting.

  • I'm slowly becoming convinced that Yoko Kanno is not human, but rather some kind of musical goddess. Good stuff.

  • Does anyone have the tabs to this song? ):

  • @gotawhitehorse "i heard"

Wow. It's nice to meet you. :D I'm deaf but I love Japanese products and the J-pop group AKB48. I heard that they are very good and I do like some of their songs as well as the other J-pop group called LM.C.
