http://gurneys.com/apple-trees/c/28/ - In this video, Felix from Gurney's shares how to prune a mature apple tree. The apple tree in this example is in its third-year of growth. The idea is to encourage a central leader. With apple and pear trees, you'll want a central leader branch to encourage new growth and fruit development.
Thanks. I'm of to trim my patio apple tree :-)

Can you do a video on how to prune an old, neglected PEAR tree? It would really help a lot!

Very useful advice. I'am trying to prune a young apple tree in my first ever garden for the first time I found the tree full of fruit buds but no leaf buds the temp here in London is still very low should I leave the buds ? will they bear fruit ?

Thank You! I'm getting ready to prune my young apple trees and I hadn't heard of the slant cut to encourage the secondary scaffold. Great Video.
