Water weighs 8 pounds, so I'm not carrying any more than I have to in my bug out bag. But I have plenty of sources around me to pull from. Your area may vary. Having a way to purify and filter is essential , you make it far without water. Here is what I use. Have solid gear you can count on.

  • Would the aquamira pro fit a nalgene wide mouth?

  • @C2T100 nope

  • I have a steripen too and love it and guess what they sell a solar charger for it... so no more limitations. google it!

  • @jaigooroo I have the solar for it, but it doesnt guarantee sunshine hear in the nw

  • Yeah Beast, that Sawyer water filter looks like THE best water solution out there. The price is right and there's no replaceable filters to worry about. You're right on about water and the weight penalty. There's absolutely no way a person could carry all the water they need. Great videos.

  • @envirosponsible thanks, good luck on the social networking thing with george

  • Isnt there a solar powared Steripen, I think there is. That would be a good way to go.

  • @C2T100 If you are crafty, you can make an aquamira pro pump out of the cap that comes with your nalgene that is powered by your own mouth. Put a hole in the nalgene cap big enough to fit a hose that will go on the spout of the aquamira pro. Put your mouth on the part of the cap that you normally drink from and suck. If you seal the edges of the hole to the hose, the pressure inside the bottle will be less than the pressure of the water source and it will fill your bottle.

  • What about heavy metals and chemical poisoning? Most urban survival situations are going to feature water polluted by industrial waste far more than water polluted by bacteria and virii. I haven't noticed any products that claim to filter chemical contamination

  • Pumps can be such a pain in the ass. They take a long time, and a lot of effort to pump. As well, the cartridges need to be cleaned, but manually scrubbing, very frequently. Steripen and a Sawyer is all you need. I just wished I ordered the Point Two instead of the Point One. I'm sure one of my friends will buy this from me once they see it in action and I'll replace it with the Point Two for virus removal. Can never to too safe.

  • I just ordered the Sawyer inline 3 way. I also have the Steripen(classic), the MSR Miniworks, and the Aquamira Frontier Pro. I keep the Aquamira in my hiking pack. I keep the Miniworks in my overnight, along with my Steripen, which comes with me anywhere I go in the wilderness overnight. I just ordered the Sawyer, and I'm really looking forward to this and getting rid of my MSR Miniworks.

  • ever seen bigfoot?

  • @beast12101 Ya it's a tv show it's on oln?channel 24.

  • the best way to purify water is to filter and boil for 3 min but if speed is the game keep it in a copper device b/c it purifies it naturally by damaging the DNA of living things(microbes)
