Such knowledge does not accurately display someone's intelligence or lack there of. Besides, not that I know how he used it (I've only read your reply to him), but it's a very, very common term on the internet (used in multiple ways), and he's definitely not stupid for simply having picked it up. Especially if he isn't even a native speaker of the English language.
