Pulitzer Prize--winning journalist and author David Halberstam died April 23 in California, on his way to interview a source for his next book. Halberstam talked with the Newseum about his experiences covering the Vietnam War for its War Stories exhibit. Find out what Halberstam had to say about covering that long conflict, his contentious relationship with the White House and his role as a reporter -- "History had catapulted me to a moment where journalism mattered."

  • still remember reading THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST in a feverish trance. How badly we need journalists like him, wish he was alive and in Bagdad right now.
