I downloaded all the podcasts of Paul Washers teaching onto my ipod and went on holiday. I spent two weeks on a cruise ship in the Med listening day and night (even falling asleep) to his teachings. It led me to pray earnestly to God, a re-evaluation of my life so far and to realise that God HAS given me a command to live by, to travel a road, to be His , now, at this time in my life....every other road leads to death, even if it seems right. Lord Jesus, please be the Lord of my life. Amen.
The reason dating could be considered a sin is that it focuses on worldly things. How the other person looks, how much fun you have, and there's all this kissing and pleasure-seeking. Dating doesn't consider God's will. I wish I had done courtship with my exes like eyeztothesky described, because that is the proper and acceptable way, to let God show you your wife, not my deceitful heart or my lying eyes.
About that book, I'll say it again, what good is earthly benefit in the face of eternity?
I agree with you as far as putting money before God . Because when people focuss all their attention on becoming rich ,they ignore the Gospel . But if men that are not Christians are the only one with power and money. Then they could make laws to control religious people. Its not about power or money, but if the wrong people have both their can be alot of problems . I'm not saying there has to be all Christian leaders.because some non Christians do respect Christianity!
Don't worry about who has the power in this world, this world is passing away. Satan is the prince of this world, the power of the air, until God says "enough" and throws satan into the 'abyss.' But for now, satan runs the world, and at some point, regardless of how many christians have money to spend on good things or power to sway good policies, the christians are going to be persecuted and the world is going to follow false prophecy.
We SHOULDN'T teach Christians to be wealthy and get rich because that takes the focus away from Christ and the gospel. If I have a mansion to live in, how does that profit me in eternity? It doesn't. God's not going to look at someone's big house and say, "nice digs, here's your reward." No, He's going to ask why they were so foolish with what He gave them.
The wealthy lifestyle is self-serving. Followers of Christ are supposed to serve others.
I agree we should never put wealth before God . But Solomon was extremely wealthy . Also sex in marriage is self serving . Unless its to procreate . You can't say because you're pleasing your spouce that its not lol Because you're getting pleased too. Its just like taking an vacation or going on an expensive trip with your wife . Both of you are happy, but it is self serving .
Sex in marriage isn't a lifestyle, getting rich is. It's like that acronym for JOY. Serve Jesus first, you will serve Others, then you can serve Yourself. Getting rich is backward to that.
Yes Solomon was rich, but that wasn't from his own efforts. He glorified God and lived righteously, so God blessed him with wealth for his FAITH. Solomon's earlthly riches weren't even the good ones, it was the wisdom from God that made Solomon truly wealthy. Solomon had many wives too, would you preach that?
