This is the interactive music demo(called Global Conflict) I submitted to Stainless Steel Studios when they were looking for a DirectMusic composer to score "Empires, Dawn of the Modern World." Stainless Steel Studios is the company that developed the original "Empire Earth". It was founded by Rick Goodman who was a co creater of Age of Empires and Ensemble Studios.

The music remember is MIDI driven in realtime, meant to coexist with a game running, and was written in 2001 so I couldn't use full CPU\RAM of the box. Hence the quality and variety of the instruments has to be limited. I made it the best quality as I could under the restraints. The app I demo at the beginning is my own creation called "DMDemo". The authoring tool (Direct Music Producer) in the second half is Microsoft's ^^

Anyway, I wanted to go people a taste of what I've spent my post DBZ career working on.

  • Sweet man. Just wondering. How many different things did you have to write for this

  • I did 6 pieces similar to this one for gameplay, plus the theme mp3 track for the main menu. Guy Whitmore did three more DMusic pieces for the story mode.

  • Wow, cool program :o. Mind telling me where I can get it lol ;D

  • It's pretty hard to find now cause its not really supported anymore. It was its own download on MSDN for a while then it became part of the Direct X SDK, but now I think you need to find DXSDK version 8.1 and download that old one. It was in 9.1 but I'm not sure you can find that anymore. And it won't work in VIsta SP1+ ... Only Vista Gold and earlier.

  • @nneiil Thanks! :) It's always nice when someone notices the Empires score. I was the composer of the in-game and menu music. Guy Whitmore did the story music, though they would sometimes use my in-game stuff for story music and his story music for in-game. I have a polished up track from the album called "Dawn" and another vid with a rejected piece from the score that wasn't used.

  • Dude, I freaking love Empires: Dawn of The Modern World. I love the music in it too! Believe me. I'm in chamber orchestra and I compose short pieces using midi. When I say i'm paying attention, I mean it. If you contributed to that, you have to be good! Great job. Plus, I just love those strategy games. Just gotta win before the enemy gets to WWI. lol. You rock! !..!, (-_-)

  • awesome, I don't do many of the symphonic scores but you layered them well!

  • Good shit. I don't mean to be anal, because I don't want to take away from the awesome musical inspirations, but it's pronounced mot-eef.

  • yeah i figured that out, bummer

  • Cool, but not sure if WWise can be compared to Band in a Box though, it's mainly for video game engines to use.
