The Central Coast Organizing Project held their first public meeting on Oct. 12, 2008 in Oxnard,California. The purpose was to invite elected officials to work with them on certain issues of concern to the community: environmental justice - the Halaco toxic waste dump site and the Edison proposed electric plant on the beaches; youth justice as it pertains to Proposition 6; and immigration. These issues have been identified as important to the Central Coast by CAUSE, working with the CCOP to create this event. Elected officials in attendance did indeed, make a commitment to help with these important issues. The meeting was declared a huge success, and they will be in a better position to make changes when the new Congress convenes in 2009.
