static electricity is a bitch haha

you know what else causes sparks? Static from GETTING IN AND OUT OF YOUR CAR SEVERAL TIMES!!!!!!!! Everyone's commented on the phones, static from playing with the phone, but no-one's mentioned this basic principle that i learned in driving school? Really?
And yes, i'm the asshole who pulled cigarettes out of my brother's mouth when he'd light up at a gas station
-
this is why drivers should get an IQ test before being issued a license by pregnant high school dropout dmv workers

the cellphone is NOT what ignited the spark... it was static electricity built up on the body from getting in and out of his car.

DON'T SLIDE IN AND OUT OF YOUR SEAT if you have a car / seat covers that give you a static shock. Always touch metal on edge of door every time you get out at the gas station and side of car with one hand while putting the nozzle in. Take the shock yourself so it doesn't happen between the gas pump nozzle and your car's gas tank filler tube full of gas fumes ! Or install a static strap under your car touching the pavement. Please check out some of my videos by clicking on my name. Enjoy.

this dumbass did EVERYTHING wrong

The biggest warning sign they should have right next to the nozzle removal, SHUT YOUR ENGINE OFF! and in smaller print "Hang up your phone while your at it"
-
That's why you shut the car OFF ya dumb fuck!

@d0rkiishchris " Whether the car is running or not, the battery is always providing power."
Sure but that's only 12 volts, which is not really as dangerous as far as being able to jump through insulation and cause a spark (like the high voltaqe in various ignition components). I think the shut the car off thing also has in mind backfiring engines and the vehicle slipping into D or 1st on its own and causing all sorts of mayhem.
I shut it off, just makes sense.

of course, they're americans.
Mobile devices do NOT makes sparks! It most certainly was NOT the cellphone. It was the static electricity from the driver getting in and out of the car. That is a proven source of gas pump fires. But not mobile phones.

@leviathon74 myth, static electricity from getting in and out of the car will cause it. As soon as you touch the nozzle you get a discharge basically you ground out causing a spark igniting the fumes
