Caught it in L.A area and decided to chase up to the 8th street yard. (because of this, I had to miss ZLCAI with two NS units today!)

Amtrak Sunset Limited train #1 with AMTK 145, Heritage Phase 3 paint GE P42DC locomotive. (Amtrak's one of 40th anniversary engines)

1) Caught it at Boca/Worth grade crossing in Los Angeles, California.
2) Los Angeles, Union Station
3) Cesar E. Chavez bridge
4) At the end, you'll see three different paint schemes/phases at Amtrak 8th street yard (From the left to right, Coast Starlight #14, Sunset Limited #2, & Sunset Limited #1 with AMTK 145. )

This video was more than 5 mins long but I edited it into 3 mins.

  • Where is the fueling racks and engine facility? I wanted to go see it when I was in LA last summer but couldnt find it.

  • @ravenhawk6910 it's at the 8th street yard in LA.

  • When it comes to the train crew (conductors and engineers) do you know if they board and deboard the train IN THE YARD or AT THE STATION in Los Angeles?

  • @ROADTRAIN23 most of the time, at the station.

  • This always confuses me with 145 and 822 in Phase 3 Heritage

  • @trainmasta227 they should paint more phase 3 instead of phase V.

  • So is that for the Surfliner train or the long-haul trains, or both? I'm wondering because up here in Oakland our yard is seperate from Oakland-Jack London (starting point for Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin trains) and Emeryville (starting point for the California Zephyr) and our crews board in the yard.

  • @ovationpdh is it coming back this way..I'm in Texarkana..and how can you find out

  • why didnt they just bring out the f40s? that would have been epic to see them in use atleast one more time. after all that engine is one of the pioneers of amtrak

  • @singwith #145 should be in PHIII with a white roof and #822 with a black roof.
