*WATCH IN HD* The are many reasons to use the Swatches palette over the Color palette in InDesign (as well as Illustrator, and in some cases Photoshop), especially when sending your document(s) to a commercial printer. It also helps you keep track of the colors used within your document. If you can, avoid using the Color palette at all costs. Similarly, I would avoid double-clicking the Fill and Stroke color indicators at the bottom of the Tool Bar in InDesign, as that just opens a Photoshop-like color picker, which could result in the same damage as using the Color palette.
