Tegnoupal in the hills of Manipur between Imphal and the Myanmar border is a beautiful village. All over Manipur people know Tegnoupal as the place of water shortage also. Girls and women walk down the hills about 1 kilometre or more to bring a few pots of water to drink and to cook with. In summer times the shortage is acute as the springs dry up.
The Kuki people who inhabit the village look for help with rooftop rainwater harvesting and ecosan. Benjamin Mate looks to do his bit and help the villagers help themselves.

  • Another great effort! Can you please explain the water purification going on in the plastic bottles. I have seen photos of this done in Africa on black roofs. How long would you leave these out in the sun & can it be done placed in the solar cooker if you do not have galvanized tin or black tarp? Thanks again,~ahya

  • good effort for a state like Kangleipak with low exposure
