Bob Banner, editor of Hope Dance Magazine, discusses how to make money into a tool for social justice, community development, and economic and environmental stability through the use of local currencies.
In opinion the currency should be backed by some sort of physical asset (low risk commodities), giving local currency value as opposed to the fiat U.S. $ & all of the terrible negative externalities that come w/ using said currency.
Local currencies should be not be pegged to the U.S. $. The locale takes on the central risk and people loose affluence and prosperity and not we much mention the envinornment looses out as well.
People need to demand that their local govt units accept local currency for taxes. Then local govt employees get paid in local currency, at least partially. Then you have a credible trustworthy currency.
