That is true, but that's why David and Eddie came to a disagreement which ended up seeing David replaced by Sammy. It doesn't matter who effected the style, it changed. And that changed Van Halen into Van Hagar.
My point? They should have kept up with what made them Van Halen.
The style changed because in the end, ED affects the style the most.
Sammy just wrote the lyrics, not the music. Ed changed the style more than Sammy did. Ed started writing different types of songs during the 1984 sessions.
The songs on 5150 would have been there regardless of if Sammy or Dave was there. The music would have been the same. The lyrics would have been diff.
Sammy hagar is only a david lee roth sound alike...In my opinion David is better than sammy because his voice sounds better to me...Its your opinion but i think this show was amazing and i cant believe i was there ^.^
Dave may not be as good as he once was, but come on. He's 54 years old. How many other 54 year old guys do you see singin' and screamin' in a hard rock band? And besides, this is classic Van Halen. This is what they started as and became well known for. When DLR left, it wasn't the same. It was a different style.
And after Hagar left, the style changed again, for the worse. Eddie even had lead vocals on one song from Van Halen III (How Many Say I).
I have had the privelege of seeing Van Halen a couple of times way back when Dave was better. He has kind of gotten a little Vegas with the singing. The best part of the show is Eddie's excellent playing, and my favorite drummer ever-Alex. Wolfgang has stepped up and is great!
Bottom line is that they are rock and roll icons, but my favorite after seeing them another six times, is the Sammy days.
I have been priveleged to see Van Halen back when Dave was good-on two separate occasions. Listening to this- he still sings ok, but it just sounds like he is trying to change it to a vegas type show. The only thing that keeps it from totally sucking is the excellent playing that Eddie does, as well as my favorite drummer Alex. Wolfgang has stepped up and done great.
Bottom line is they are rock and roll icons, but my favorite stuff is the Sammy days.
