Sol Hoopii switched to electric lap steel around 1935 and developed a C# minor tuning (B D E G# C# E, bass to treble) which allowed more sophisticated chord and melody work than the open A or open G tunings in use at the time.

It's sad. It's about finding a door locked shut, peeking through the keyhole, and seeing your honey being kissed.... what is this... tears are dampening my eyelashes... Tell again, what you're doing, without love, locked up tight ...
Sometimes I think the old singers were less 'affected' and more authentic. More the true old Hawai'i singing style. At least, it brings back the time when I was young and this music was MAGIC!

I'm pretty sure the singer on this recording is Hawaii's Song Bird but I was not aware of Sol being the the steel player. Be nice to know who else is backing these two greats from the past.

I love this song -- it sounds so sweet, but Lena Machado wrote the song about a two-timing jerk!
